MK Fest
MK Fest is a personally designed music and art festival experience. The event was held at Silo City in May 2017 in downtown Buffalo. It took place inside of the 130 ft tall grain elevators that are no longer in service. The property used to be home to the world’s largest grain distributor and is now re-purposed as an indoor/outdoor gallery space for local artists to transform how they please.
The MK Fest concept originated from my interest in designing experiences and attending music festivals. Every aspect of the show was designed by reflecting on my personal experience from attending Ultra Music Festival in Miami earlier that year. I wanted my audience to feel what it means to attend a music festival. Listening to music is a very personal enjoyment for all. Concerts and music festivals bring people together under one common interest and allow this enjoyment to be shared with others. The goal was to relay this message of coming together to my audience by using my Ultra Music Festival experience as the subject and by actually physically bringing people together for MK Fest.
The event was set up inside three of the adjacent, circular silos and attendees were able to navigate from room to room. The industrial, stone structures and the slight drizzle of rain created an ominous atmosphere throughout the duration of the show which aided in creating a more immersive experience.

First-Hand Documentation of our Ultra Music Festival Experience
This video was projected in one of the Silo rooms at the show connected to large speakers. The room also had a multi-colored light and strobe lights that projected up into the silo to complete the environment.
